ilent feature w/ Chaplin. Three movies are being shot simultaneously and Charlie is an overworked scene shifter. The foreman is waited on hand and foot until all the shifters but Charlie go on strike. A girl looking for work pretends to be a man and helps Charlie. Charlie discovers her gender and falls in love with her. The foreman thinks they are homosexual and in the ensuing fight they become involved in a long pie throwing scene from one of the movies in production. The frustrated workers dynamite the studio. set it back up then kicks it deliberately on his way back

ms Eric spits on the floor and Chaplin brings him an enormous
urn to use as a spitoon

ws Chaplin avoids hitting camera tripod with his hand truck
but kicks it with his foot as he passes

ws Chaplin moves large pillar prop in medieval scene and loses
control causing it to fall on a supervisor knocking him down…it
falls on Chaplin who steps on the supervisor’s stomach in
straightening it up…he carries it on his back to its spot but
when he sets it down it falls on cameraman and director on the next
stage…he lifts it up but it topples over onto supervisor
again…he steps on the man’s stomach getting it up again but it
falls hitting Chaplin and the supervisor

ms Chaplin sits next to man eating large bunch of leeks for
lunch – BAD BREATH – Chaplin gets teary eyed and suffers from the odor…he uses a bellows
to clear the air around his face…he tries putting on a helmet
from a suit of armor opening the face plate only to eat his
bread…man next to him starts eating meat from a large bone
Chaplin bites meat for his sandwich from the end closest to
him…man catches him…man gives him two cleaned off bones and
Chaplin gets down on his knees and starts to use them as drum
sticks on the tin plates of Eric’s lunch

ws Chaplin puts board down so he can use a saw on it and steps
on the nearest end to hold it down but the other unsecured end
comes up and hits him in the head

ms Supervisor wakes up work crew asleep after lunch – they
protest and go out on strike…Chaplin and Eric refuse to join them

ms Chaplin and Eric shake hands when Eric doesn’t let go
Chaplin hits his hand with a hammer

ms Edna dressed in men’s work clothes asks Eric for a job as a
stagehand and gets it

ms Chaplin pulls lever and drops Eric thru the trap door.
Chaplin hits him with a bottle when he looks away. Chaplin falls
thru the trap door

ms Chaplin notices Edna (in men’s clothes) powdering her face
he does a swishy gay
take and the title card says “Oh! Mercy!!” – Supervisor asks Edna to sew his pants not
knowing she’s a girl – the seam in the rear has opened…she faints…Chaplin takes
her cap off to fan her and sees her long hair…she puts the cap back on and they kiss
…Eric sees them and thinks they are homosexuals gay …he pats Chaplin on the cheek
and minces back and forth…Chaplin kicks him as he leaves

ms Edna over hears the strikers plotting to blow up the studio

ms As supervisor bends over Chaplin tears a piece of cloth and
makes him think his pants have ripped again

ms Chaplin is drawn into pie throwing scene with Eric…the
pie throwing gets hot and heavy every body including actors on the
next set (a medieval scene) get hit by pies – only Chaplin is not
hit

ms Edna hits one of the dynamiters on the head with a hammer
00:19:46:00 B W 1916
ms The other dynamiter drops his explosives thru the trap
doors…Edna tries to hit him with the hammer but he sees her and
they fight

ws Eric chases Chaplin around the pie set then thru the
medieval scene set…he grabs him on the trap doors punches him
knocking him against the trap door lever and so dropping Eric thru
the doors…Chaplin punches the second dynamiter and he falls thru
the trap door opening…the dynamite goes off catching Eric and the
second dynamiter…Chaplin and Edna kiss
